Written and produced by Beyoncé and Dixson, the song was released as single by Columbia Records and Parkwood Entertainment on November 12, 2021. Beyoncé was inspired to write the song after watching a screening of the film, which stars Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father of tennis players Serena and Venus Williams. The song plays during the end credits of the film.
"Be Alive" received acclaim from critics and has been nominated for numerous Best Original Song awards, including at the Critics' Choice Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Satellite Awards, Hollywood Critics' Association Awards and the Academy Awards, making it Beyoncé's first ever Oscar nomination.
